![]() ![]() ![]() I'm still in the trial period and need to watch more actual content, but I'm pretty sure I'll purchase a license and ditch madvr for good. Only downside IMO is the messy UI, especially if you don't really care about the media center stuff and just need a good video player. Whether you choose the free edition or pay for a subscription, the features. It even has features I've been wanting in madvr for litteral YEARS, like brightness limit for text-based subtitles in HDR. You get all of the essential features of a media server with the free version. All working OUT OF THE BOX without hours of tinkering with settings I don't understand or care about. Bitstreaming, HDR Passthrough for my LGTV, DTM for my Sony PJ, framerate matching. Especially madvr, which has been clearly discarded by madshi, even if he doesn't want to admit it, and relies on obscure tricks to work today. I'm tired of this Rude Goldberg machine my HTPC has become with GPU drivers, OS, lav filters, MPC-BE and madvr all playing against each other. You can use the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to watch live TV or to record or subscribe to your favorite programs. I would like to hear from anyone who har JRivermc running on a Shield, how do you like it and what about ease of use? Not much information out there about using JRiver on a Shield.I've been waiting for a madvr alternative for a long time. JRiver Media Center supports TV tuners from Hauppage, SiliconDust, Ceton, ATI, Aver, and most other manufacturers. I still plan on updating to Media Center 28 because that is the only way to see further development. JRiver Media Center is a multimedia application that allows the user to play and organize various types of media on a computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux operating systems.Developed by JRiver, Inc., it is offered as shareware. Personally I would rather use JRivermc but since the wife likes the Plex app on the Roku I will use JRiver from now on only to organize my Media in my library and play it back using Plex and the Roku. The nice thing about Plex is it looks and acts the same on all devices. 2.1 Listen to Audio 2.1.1 My music is stored on disk and I want use Media Center to navigate through it 2.1.2 I want to route audio from other software through Media Center 2.1.3 I want to listen to Internet Radio 2. If I want to watch something on YouTube TV or Amazon just click home and open the app I want to watch. 1.1 Installation 1.1.1 Windows 1.1.2 Mac 1.1.3 Linux 1.2 Setup 2 How do I configure Media Center to. Start the Roku, click on the Plex app and then click on live tv, movies, streaming services etc. JRiver is a much better media server as far as tweaking goes but Plex is easier for the wife and others to use. Filter by these if you want a narrower list of alternatives or looking for a specific functionality of Playon. Playon alternatives are mainly Media Centers but may also be Media Players or Media Servers. Other great apps like Playon are OSMC, Splash, MediaPortal and Android TV. I tried out plex pass for a couple of months and since it worked so well on all of my devices I bought a lifetime subscription. The best Playon alternative is Infuse, which is free. I would really like to see JRiver come up with something like Plex has that just seems to work on all devices without a lot of tweaking. JRiver provides many different skinnable user interfaces. Moreover, it can manage your data even if you have a huge collection. It also grants you access to record TV in HD quality. JRiver provides fast, reliable, and feature-rich media streaming. From my research it does not work very well right now on many android devices and since the Roku is not an android device it is not available for it. Supported Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Linux, Roku, Android TV, Firestick, Chrome.
